Tuning FAQ

What is "Bass Shift" and how do I activate it?

Bass Shift mode is only used on VS-1™, VS-II™ and V-SAM™ models.

Bass Shift is generally useful with any low-register instrument, but is absolutely essential for tuning notes below C1 (approximately 31 Hz), like the low B on a 5-string bass guitar. Because of unavoidable constraints, Bass Shift operation can only be selected at power-up time for the tuner and must remain active until power is switched off.

Entering Bass Shift mode is simple. Just hold the bottom MENU button (lower left corner) down first and switch the tuner's power ON. You can release the MENU button immediately after the display screen begins to show information.

If done properly, you will see a bass clef sign (F clef) in the lower right-hand corner of the start-up screen. Once the normal RUN screen appears, the bass clef will continue to appear just after the octave number to the right of the large current-scale note indication. Note that the octave number in the display reads correctly until the pitch to be read falls below Octave 0, at which point a "minus" is shown. (However, the octave numbers printed on the face of the VS-1 below the display screen will not be valid above Octave 3 in Bass Shift operation.)
